She's Here!

Well, Lainee Grace has arrived! She was born on November 12th, at 9:01 a.m. She was 7 lb 15 oz, 21 inches long. The C-section went pretty smoothly.....the worst parts were the spinal block irritated my skin and left it feeling incredibly itchy and the pain meds left me pretty nauseous for about 24 hours...but overall I felt pretty good. I was up walking around and taking a shower the next morning with minimal pain!

We brought Lainee home on Saturday...Carter didn't really know what to think and starting running around the house, throwing things, and screaming at the top of his lungs. Every single day he seems to be warming up to her a little more...it is really cute to see.

Lainee sleeps and eats constantly...unfortunately she sleeps a lot more during the day than night. Christian and I had kinda forgotten about this stage with a baby...but we are making it. I remember that things got a lot easier after the first 2 weeks or so with Carter so we look forward to that. Christian has been off work all week with me and we have enjoyed just being together. He is an enormous help to me...I am truly blessed to call him my husband!

Enjoy the pics!

The night before the birth...I was ready! :-)

I know Carter's hand is in the picture but this picture makes me laugh so hard!
Thanks for all of your prayers and well wishes for our family! We are blessed!

She is almost here!

We are counting down the days until Baby Lainee arrives! In some ways it seems like I have been pregnant forever and at the same time it feels like this pregnancy has just flown past! I have been feeling more tired these last few weeks but overall have felt pretty good. I have an ultrasound scheduled for Oct. 29th and should find out a definite date for the c-section then but right now we are planning on around Nov. 10th.

On Oct. 19th we celebrated Christian's 30th birthday! We began the celebration the weekend before with a trip to Scottsburg. My best friends from high school/college-Hannah, Stephanie, and Erin were all in town...it was the first time we had all been together in about 4 or 5 years. We enjoyed Lon's doughnuts (only a Scottsburgian would understand), lunch at Hancock's drug store, and plenty of laughs and memories. It is a blessing to have friends who are always the same-no matter how far apart you live from them or how long it has been-you pick up right where you left off. My parents took Christian, Carter, and I out later that evening for birthday shopping and dinner at Texas Roadhouse. It was a really good time. Monday I took the day off to spend with Christian on his birthday. We took little Carter to day care and began the day with me getting the H1N1 vaccine! :-) We had breakfast at Denny's (not many choices in Vincennes), went shopping around town, took naps, and had lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings. We also were able to finish Lainee's room. All Christian really wanted to do on his birthday was go see a movie...unfortunately there were no afternoon movies playing before we would need to pick Carter up from daycare...so we had a babysitter this past Friday and went to see "The Stepfather" to complete his birthday wish! :-)

We had a major prayer request answered...we found a home for our cats Abby and Oliver! My cousin Carin took them in and it seems to be working out wonderfully! We hated to give the cats up (we had gotten Oliver about a week after we got married) but we knew that with the baby coming we weren't going to be able to give them the attention they needed. It still is a little quiet in the house without them, but we know that Carin is giving them a great home and lots of love!

Carter's first black eye...he fell on a toy at Daycare (although Daddy likes to tell everyone Carter was wrestling a grizzly bear)

Carter grabbed one of his towels and put it over his head...looks like a superhero!

I walked in Carter's room to check on him before we went to bed and found this sight...he sure loves his teddy bear!

Mimi Blome was getting ready to go on a trip and was borrowing some of our luggage...Carter was all about getting into the suitcase and playing so Daddy decided to take him on a little ride!

Summer trips

Well, I figured it was about time for my monthly post of the Blome Buzz! As usual we have been busy but definitely have been playing this Labor Day weekend pretty lazy! We have been trying to work more on Baby Blome's room but have found it a little easier to nap and watch movies at night instead. :-)

Carter continues to grow and develop so quickly! It amazes me how fast he is growing up...he isn't a baby anymore! He can now say, "Mama", "DaDa", "This" and "No." He can point to whatever he wants and unfortunately has learned to throw mini-tantrums to get attention.
He is though a very laid back little guy and is a joy to have around!

I'm feeling pretty good...almost 30 weeks along! For those that don't know...we are having a girl! We have decided on a name-Lainie Grace but aren't really sure of the spelling. (It was hard for me to decide on a spelling just now!) She should be here the first or second week of November so Christian and I have decided it is going to be a very interesting Thanksgiving/Christmas season!

Here are some recent pictures!

Carter in the morning....his hair is always a little out of control. I think he had just finished his pan-key-cakes (pancakes) and had a little syrup in his hair.

Carter's first time in the swimming pool. We had a swimming party with our small group at a group member's house. We imagined Carter was thinking, "What are all of you doing in my bath tub?" He absolutely loved the water-especially splashing!

After swimming...about a minute after we strapped him in on the way home

Here is Carter in the pool with my brother on our recent trip to Spring Mill

Christian and I on our 5 year anniversary trip to St. Louis. It was a good trip but unfortunately was cut short as Carter got sick at home with my parents. We ended up having to leave a day early but we were able to take in some sites before we left. It has been a wonderful five years together! :-)

Enjoy the Labor Day Holiday!

What a week!

Wow...it has been a pretty hectic last couple of weeks with the Blome family. (I feel like I begin every post this way) :-) Sadly, last week my Grandpa Thompson passed away after a short battle with cancer. We traveled to Scottsburg for the services and were able to spend some time with family and friends that we rarely have the opportunity to visit with. Carter was such a good boy! He was at the funeral home for about 5 hours and was on his best behavior! The next day we had breakfast at Crackel Barrel and it was quite a smorgasbord for Carter! He had a sample of everyone's meal and scarfed every bite down! He had eggs, grits, biscuits and gravy and sausage!

Yesterday, I was involved in a car accident while driving for home health. It happened when I was way out in the country traveling to a patient's home. I was driving straight down the road when a truck pulled out from an intersection and pulled way into my lane. I attempted to swerve into the grass to avoid being hit, but the truck slammed into the driver's side of my car and kind of t-boned/side swiped me. The really scary part of the situation was the the driver's door would not open so I was basically pinned in. They had to use some machine to pry the door open to get me out. I was having some neck pain so the EMT took me to the hospital in the ambulance. They took some x-rays of my neck which came back okay-just some whiplash. They also monitored the baby for about a hour and everything came back fine with him/her. The whole day was pretty scary, especially being so far away from home and from Christian......I'm pretty sore/stiff today but other than that all is well. My car was banged up pretty good and is sitting in a salvage yard. It looks as if everything will be fixable though.

We are looking forward to some time away this summer. Christian and I are traveling to St. Louis for our anniversary in July and planning to leave Carter with my parents. Then the next week Carter and I are traveling with Christian to Chicago for a conference. It should be a relaxing time.

I've attached some pictures of Carter:

Here is Carter playing with his blocks

Here is Carter posing with his pals Elyza and Malachi

Carter eating his birthday cake at the party at Grandma and Grandpa Smith's house. He seemed to have a lot of fun demolishing the cake. These pictures are very tame compared to one's you will see at the bottom.

Carter eating his teething biscuits. Kids really seem to like these things but they are so messy!

These pictures are from quite awhile ago, but I just found them. This was Carter's first official photo shoot. He is the baby who resembles an old man sitting in the back. He was much younger than the other kiddos in the photo and was unable to sit up on his own. This photo went out on a post card for VU alumni when they have a baby. The shirt's say "VU Class of 2026"!
All of the other kiddos belong to VU employees also.

Nothing says "Happy Birthday!" like this photo taken at Carter's Birthday party at our house. As you can tell, he totally demolished this cake! There was icing everywhere, including the walls. He would go crazy slamming his fists into the cake and when everyone would start laughing he would start sobbing!
Here he is licking the icing off his arm!

Surprise!!!

I know, I know-it has been forever since I last updated the blog! As usual the Blome family is keeping pretty busy. The big news for us is that we are expecting Baby Blome #2! I'm about 16 weeks along with my due date being November 16th! Christian and I both know we are going to be super busy with two little ones but we are very excited!

Carter is growing like a weed! I've included a few pictures of his first "real" hair cut! I had attempted to trim his hair a few times but we figured it was probably time to get a salon cut.
He was so brave and sat so still! He is becoming such a big boy! I also attached a picture of Carter when he was a newborn with Kathy so you can see just how much he is growing up and in case you forgot about his highlighted hair!

We are missing the cord to our new camera which has more pictures so I hope to find that cord and post more pics soon!

What a week!

Well...it seems like it is a never ending battle with poor little Carter-he was hospitalized this week with RSV. RSV is an infection of the lungs and breathing passages. From what I have read almost all children will become infected with RSV before they reach the age of 2-it just affects some children more severely than others. RSV is very contagious-and it spread through Carter's daycare quickly. We took him to the doctor on Wednesday and after a positive RSV test they decided to hospitalize him because he wasn't drinking anything and had a high fever. It was a very interesting hospital stay-I slept in the crib with Carter (I know-a very funny sight). Needless to say-we were glad to get back home. He is on breathing treatments every four hours and on some antibiotics-but feeling much better. He can't go back to daycare for another week so Christian and I are dividing up the week and staying home with him. I'm really enjoying my day with him!

Here are some more recent pictures:

Carter found my hand weight and is actually able to pick it up! With close supervision he has been practicing bicep curls! :-) I think his arm was worn out by this point-he just couldn't do another one! :-)
Carter was playing this game with grandma! He was able to roll the ball to her across the table and then catch it when it came back to him!

I walked into the office on Friday to find these:
My co-worker Amber came into the office holding the flowers with some of my other co-workers behind her and said, "Look what my husband sent me!" I was a little jealous, until she turned the card around and it had my name on it! :-) My wonderful husband had sent me flowers! They are so beautiful! Friday night my parents were kind enough to watch Carter so Christian and I could go on a date to church! The youth did a fundraiser where they provided us with a candle light dinner and live entertainment! It was a lot of fun and the kids worked really hard to make the evening wonderful. We ended the evening with a rousing game of Skip-Bo (our favorite card game) at home.

Busy, Busy, Busy

Sorry it has taken me awhile to update-Carter is keeping us very busy! He continues to become more and more mobile! He will try to pull up on anything-tables, chairs, doors, toys, his jumperoo, etc. He definitely keeps us on our toes!

Thankfully he has recovered from the stomach bug he had. He was home from daycare for about 2 weeks! We were afraid he might be lactose intolerant or have some type of food allergy, but thankfully it was just a bug that took quite awhile to die. Thanks for your prayers!

We were snowed in for a few days last week. I definitely wasn't going to try to drive to Huntingburg in 8 inches of snow/ice and the University even closed one day so Christian could be home too! It was great to all be home together and just be lazy. I've included some pictures of Carter looking out the window at the snow at the end of the post. Thankfully the snow has melted-I was itching to get back to running outside!

Our church showed the movie "Fireproof" this evening. Our small group is doing a study on the movie right now, but Christian and I hadn't been able to see the movie yet. I thought the movie was excellent-if you haven't seen it yet I really recommend it.
